SpiceChef ("we", "our", "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices.

1. Information We Collect

Cookbook PDFs: When you upload a cookbook PDF, the file is stored securely on our servers to extract recipes for your use within the app.

Recipe Descriptions: When you generate a recipe, the text description you provide is sent to our servers for processing.

Cooking Activity: The app stores your cooking session progress (current step, serving size) locally and on our servers so you can resume where you left off.

Onboarding Preferences: Dietary preferences, skill level, and default serving size you provide during setup.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To extract recipes from your uploaded cookbook PDFs
• To generate recipes from your text descriptions
• To provide guided cooking features (timers, checklists, serving scaling)
• To remember your preferences and cooking progress

3. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate the app:

• Supabase — for secure data storage and file hosting
• Anthropic (Claude API) — to process cookbook PDFs and generate recipes. Your uploaded PDFs and recipe descriptions are sent to Anthropic's API for processing. Anthropic's privacy policy is available at anthropic.com/privacy.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely using Supabase's infrastructure. Uploaded PDFs are stored in private storage buckets. We use industry-standard security measures to protect your information.

5. Data Retention

Your cookbook PDFs, extracted recipes, and generated recipes are retained as long as you use the app. You can delete your cookbooks and recipes from within the app at any time.

6. What We Do Not Collect

• We do not collect your location data
• We do not sell or share your personal data with advertisers
• We do not use analytics or tracking tools
• We do not access your contacts, camera, or microphone

7. Children's Privacy

SpiceChef is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

8. Your Rights

You may request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us. Upon request, we will delete all your stored data including uploaded PDFs, recipes, and preferences.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
